The Farm Cafe Story

“Men don’t belong in the kitchen.”

These were the devastating words that a young Dr. Manikam would frequently hear growing up, dashing his hopes and dreams of a career in culinary arts. His passion for agriculture met a similar fate, resulting in a decision to be a “good Indian boy”, as he put it, and embarking on a career in veterinary medicine.

Over the last 50 years, Dr Manikam has dedicated his life towards veterinary medicine, working tirelessly to provide quality veterinary care with a focus on improving the livelihood of farmers all across Malaysia through his medical expertise, quality veterinary products, and of course, a lot of love and care.

Even with all the attention poured into his efforts to improve the Malaysian farmer community, Dr Manikam still found time to quietly nurture his passion for food and agriculture. If you were to visit his home, you’re likely to be welcomed with the delicious scent of home-made dishes, lovingly cooked with ingredients fresh from Dr Manikam’s own backyard garden: a lush, green, edible field of various produce, from brinjals and herbs to moringa trees.

For many years, Dr Manikam kept his veterinary profession and culinary inclinations strictly separate. This was until it dawned on him that he could fuse both to showcase the high quality produce from local farmers, while realising his dream of having a food establishment he could call his own. And so, in the humble beginnings of his home kitchen, the seed of Farm Cafe was planted.

Farm Cafe is on a mission to raise awareness of the great work that local farmers do, incorporating the freshest, high quality local produce to serve heartwarming comfort food straight from the heart.
